2025: Bankruptcy Filing

On June 30, 2025, French artificial heart manufacturer Carmat filed for bankruptcy. The corresponding application was sent to the Versailles Court of Economic Affairs.

Earlier, Carmat warned that by the end of June 2025 it could run out of money, and therefore it urgently needed additional funding in the amount of at least €3.5 million to continue its activities as usual. However, despite all efforts, it was not possible to attract this money. Therefore, the company is forced to file for insolvency. At Carmat's request, trading in its shares is suspended pending a ruling by the Court of Versailles.

In accordance with the approved Carmat business plan, the company requires €35 million to continue work over 12 months, including €20 million until the end of 2025. But there were difficulties with raising funding.

Analysts, according to Reuters, outlined the two most likely scenarios for Carmat: a takeover by a larger market participant or support from a strong financial partner willing to help the company reach profitability.

Given the significance of Carmat's artificial heart technology, intervention by the French state cannot be ruled out, but this seems unlikely in light of the company's obligations, the publication says.
