2023: Class action lawsuit against company over hacker attack
On May 23, 2023, it became known that a class action lawsuit was filed against Carvin Software, a company specializing in the provision of digital services to recruiting and financial agencies in connection with a hacker invasion. Carvin Software has already admitted to the hack, which could potentially affect approximately 356,000 customers.
The software provider, whose customers include Apple Staffing, Arastaff, Complete Labor, EmploymentUS and Personnel Services, said it faced a cyber attack in early 2023. The investigation showed that in the period from February 22 to March 9, 2023, attackers stole files with confidential information from the corporate network: these are the names and social security numbers of customers, as well as closed financial information.
Carvin Software has detected unusual activity on some systems on our computer network. We promptly isolated the affected resources and launched a comprehensive investigation into the nature and scope of the invasion, the company said in an official notice. |
Stolen information, as noted, can be used by cybercriminals to organize phishing campaigns and other fraudulent schemes on the Internet. And this can result in large financial losses for the affected persons. In this regard, a statement was sent to the court against Carvin Software on behalf of about 187 thousand Americans. The interests of the victims are represented by Lyon Firm, which was previously "actively involved in class actions related to privacy violations and data theft." How much the applicants demand in compensation is not reported. Details of the incident have been sent to the Maine Attorney General's Office. Carvin Software continues to address the consequences of hacking.[1]
