Top managers of the Russian subsidiary Holcim bought it from the company

On December 14, 2022, it became known about the sale of Holcim's Russian business to the management of a local subsidiary. According to the press service of the manufacturer of cement and building mixtures, this step completes the procedure for Holcim's withdrawal from the Russian market.

As noted in Holcim, the business will continue to work in Russia under a new brand. The agreement reached between the headquarters and the Russian management team will be implemented in accordance with all requirements of Russian legislation, the company added. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Holcim managed four cement plants in Russia: in Voskresensk and Kolomna (Moscow region), in the village of Ferzikovo (Kaluga region) and in Volsk (Saratov region). The company also owned three quarries for the extraction of non-metallic materials (gabbro-diabase and granite, as well as the production of rubble) in Karelia: Golodai-Gora, Bolshoi Massif and Shokshinsky quartzite (mothballed).

The company believes that the sale of Russian business will not have a significant financial impact on Holcim, since in 2021 it accounted for less than 1% of revenue in Russia.

At the end of March 2022, Holcim announced the beginning of the process of leaving the Russian market after stopping all investments in Russian projects, as well as the search for buyers for assets. In mid-May 2022, the head of the company, Jan Yenish, said that Holcim has more than 15 requests for Russian assets. About 1.8 thousand people worked at Holcim in Russia.[2]

Asset Control Conflict in Russia

On August 2, 2022, the Swiss construction group Holcim announced a raider seizure of Russian business. "Holcim is currently being subjected to an illegal attempt to seize its assets in Russia, as well as an organized campaign to smear the company's reputation," it said.

The company called the information about the sale of Russian business to businessman Yevgeny Kostyukevich "fabricated and absolutely unreliable" and assured that Holcim "never contacted" him or his representatives.
