2022: Opening of the Center for Microelectronic Technologies in Microwave Electronics and Integrated Photonics

In July 2022, the Center for Microelectronic Technologies in Microwave Electronics and Integral Photonics was created in Moscow. A grant of 240 million rubles was allocated for the implementation of the project.

According to the press service of the National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI," on the basis of which the center was formed, it will be engaged in the creation of components and materials critical for the industry. Among them are high-purity fluorine-containing gases for the microelectronic industry, low-noise and powerful components for microwave electronics, photon integrated circuits for telecommunications systems, and intelligent systems in the field of 5G networks. At the same time, the center will provide educational services, involving students and graduate students of NRNU MEPhI in the implementation of their work.

It is planned that until 2029, the Center for Microelectronic Technologies in Microwave Electronics and Integrated Photonics will provide engineering services for the creation of critical components and materials to organizations in the real sector in the amount of up to 750 million rubles, creating at least 56 sets of design and technological documentation.

An application for funds was submitted by NRNU MEPhI together with the Seversky Institute of Technology (a branch of the university).

The grant was allocated in accordance with the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 209 of 18.02.2022, which implies the provision of subsidies from the federal budget to scientific or educational organizations that develop engineering centers in the field of component development. NRNU MEPhI will receive 96 million rubles from the grant in 2022 and another 144 million rubles in 2023.

In June 2022, the Mephius full-cycle microelectronics design center was launched at NRNU MEPhI. The objectives of the project are import substitution in an extremely sensitive industry segment for Russia.[1]
