In September, 2018 it became known of development by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain of blockchain technology for development of the national forest industry.

According to the Cointelegraph edition with reference to the publication of the Spanish EuropaPress resource, will be engaged in project implementation specially created working group ChainWood. Thanks to implementation of technology of the distributed register in a logistics system of the forest industry it is supposed to improve traceability and supply efficiency of wood in Spain.

Spain develops a blockchain platform for wood supply control

Eight partners from different regions of Spain, such as Galicia, Madrid, Andalusia, Castile-Leon and Asturias were a part of ChainWood. The working group is created at a financial support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain, head department concerning development of agriculture and forest exploitation and also public administration of the country. Total amount of the subsidies selected with ChainWood is 93,350 euros.

By September 25, 2018 in the cities in Santiago de Compostela and Madrid the first working meetings of ChainWood already took place. The group intends to develop the cloud software, "which will increase transparency" forestry and landscape processes, including production of whole wood, spill, cellulose and biomass, due to application of blockchain technologies, Big Data and machine learning.

As soon as the blockchain platform is created, ChainWood will test it in pilot programs for supply control of wood of a poplar, a chestnut and an oak in Castile-Leon, Galicia and Asturias.

It should be noted, it is not the first project in the field of a blockchain in Spain. In July, 2018 the government of Catalonia stated that it uses technology in activity of government institutions and for quality improvement of digital services to the population.[1]
