2019: Disclosure of source codes of all programs
At the beginning of April, 2019 Chef announced that source codes of all software products which are developed by the company are uploaded publicly under the license Apache 2. Thus, 100% of software of Chef became belong to the category Open Source.
Prior to the beginning of April, 2019 Chef applied model at which source codes of principal components of proprietary products and also additional tools were open. Most of them are addressed to corporate users and intended for security and software implementation. Now all these tools of which it is the share to a half of code base of the company became open.
We leave from our model of an open core. Now we pass to software development only open source — the senior vice president for products and development of Chef Corey Scobie reported the TechCrunch edition. |
The open model, according to him, concerns also development processes. Further the company is going to disclose more information on "road map", feature set, etc. All commercial products of Chef will be constructed based on the same open source code to which anyone can get access.
Cory Skobi says that on transition to Open Source the company several reasons pushed. One of them consists in the following philosophy of the company: the best method create software is a public cooperation with those who really use this software.
One more reason of Skobi calls that Chef companies become more complex to be explained what parts of programs have an open source code and what — are not present.
We wanted to simplify such talk and to be absolutely fair — he told.[2] |
