City administration of Lesosibirsk

The city of Lesosibirsk is located on the Yenisei path in 280 km. to the north from Krasnoyarsk on the flat left coast of Yenisei. Owing to proximity of the mouth of the Angara River (27 km. in the South) - the main floating artery of the Angara region, Lesosibirsk turned into the largest timber industry center of edge the largest city of the Nizhneangarsky region. The river port of Lesosibirsk - the second most powerful in an edge part of the Yenisei basin. Transport functions of Lesosibirsk are complemented with the railroad Achinsk-Lesosibirsk (274 km.) on which from the Trans-Siberian Railway, passing Krasnoyarsk, freights are delivered to the Yenisei North. A profitable transport geographical location - the main factor of development of Lesosibirsk which allowed it "select" many functions at ancient Yeniseisk. Population – 69.5 thousand people.

On site Lesosibirsk since 1640 there was a village of Jobbers the Meadow. In the 19th century of the village of Maklakovo - the center of the volost. The name "Maklakovo", according to one of versions comes from the word "mokly" ("wet"). Major activities of the Russian settlers since the 17th century: agriculture, hunting, fishing, beekeeping. On kitchen gardens grew up: onions, garlic, beet, cabbage, carrots, and about the 19th century and potatoes. In forests are found: sable, squirrel, bear, elk, hare, polar fox, fox, wood-grouse; in the rivers: sterlet, sturgeon, grayling, muksun, chir, whitefish, crucian, pike. Annual average temperature at the end of the 19th century +4 ° (in the winter -50 °, in the summer +40 °). Today the climate became softer due to input in a system of the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station and the general warming.

In 1916 Norwegian Joonas Lid constructed the sawing plant which made a forest product and for export to Maklakovo. Since 1935 at the sawing plant worked, having become in an effect the minister of the lesoderevopererabatyvayushchy industry, Timofeev Nikolay Vladimirovich.

After the Great Patriotic War near Maklakovo the large sawing plants on processing of the Angarsk pine in timber for export were constructed, the industrial settlements of Novomaklakovo and Novoyeniseysk are built. The decree of Presidium of the Supreme Council of RSFSR of February 21, 1975 No. 185 of the settlements of Novomaklakovo and Maklakovo forms the city of Lesosibirsk. In 1988 the structure of Lesosibirsk includes the industrial settlement of Novoyeniseysk.

The city was stretched more than on thirty kilometers along the coast of Yenisei and consists of the separate residential arrays which are grouped around the enterprises and connected by a highway regular passenger traffic.

In the village of Maklakovo from 1903 to 1905 Pyotr Zalomov – the hero of the novel of M. Gorky Mother lived in exile; the Hero of the Soviet Union Efim Belinsky lived and studied.

The name in 1975 of the young city of "Lesosibirsk" was offered by Kolpakov Nikolay Terentyevich, at that time the first secretary of GorCom of the CPSU, the Chairman of the Organizing committee by training of the city.

The modern industry of Lesosibirsk is provided by 36 enterprises. Primary branches of the industry: woodworking and wood processing, timber-chemical, food. Lesosibirsk – the top producer of timber export products in the region (Germany, France, Spain, Italy, England, the Arab Republic of Egypt, Greece, etc.).

Perspectives of development of the industry in Lesosibirsk are connected with deeper processing of wood, in particular with construction of PPM and hydrolytic and barmy (biochemical) plant.

In the city two universities - branches of the Krasnoyarsk university and the Siberian technology academy are opened. Work: two technical training colleges, medical technical school, big network of comprehensive schools, theater, museum, city showroom, 5 schools of arts and 5 Recreation centers. Names of artists, athletes, progress of on-stage performance groups of the city are known outside edge and the Russian Federation.

According to the law of Krasnoyarsk Krai "About Investment of the Municipal Entity City of Lesosibirsk Status of the City District" No. 13-3128 of 2/25/2005 the city of Lesosibirsk which part city localities are: the city of Lesosibirsk, the industrial settlement of the Shooter and the rural settlement of Ust-Angarsk, is allocated with the status of the city district.
