2021: Date leak of users from Brazil

In the middle of February, 2021 National administration on data protection of Brazil (ANPD) announced the beginning of investigation of the second in value date leak in the country. Within the last incident these half of the population of Brazil were opened.

Investigation concerns date leak from which users of two mobile operators of Brazil - Vivo and Claro suffered. It is about more than 102 million mobile numbers. Among data to which malefactors got access: user names, registration numbers of taxpayers, the number of the minutes spent for phone calls and also other information, including data which are related to the president of the country Zhair Bolsonar.

According to ZDNet, the cybercriminal who is outside Brazil received 57.2 million data sets about clients of Vivo and 45.6 million data sets concerning clients of Claro. He offered data for sale in the Darknet. Cyber security specialists from Psafe company detected an incident on February 3, 2021, however they could not find proofs that both mobile operators really were a source of leaks, besides the companies denied theft of any data on clients.

National administration on data protection of Brazil said that it "takes all necessary measures" for legal investigation. ANPD involved in investigation Federal Police and also the company which announced an incident and other enterprises which can be involved in date leak. The Brazilian department intends to take measures for control and risk reduction, the consumers connected with personal data who were potentially affected.

News about date leak of clients of Vivo and Claro followed after at the beginning of 2021 in the Darknet data about 223 million Brazilians were published and sold.^[1]

2020: Purchase of cellular business of Oi Movel

In the middle of December, 2020 TIM Participacoes, Telefonica Brasil SA and Claro Brasil won an auction for acquisition of Oi Movel company - cellular business of the largest Brazilian telecom operator Oi.
