Dailymotion which headquarters is located in Paris is in the top three video hostings in the world on attendance, conceding only to YouTube and Vimeo. The number of unique monthly users of the website reaches 100 million people. For comparison: the number of the same users of YouTube is about 1 billion.

At the beginning of 2017 the website Dailymotion reports that the total quantity of its users makes 300 million people, and the monthly number of viewings – 3.5 billion rollers. In Russia Dailymotion enjoys smaller popularity, than in other countries, and seldom gets even in top-10 popular video hostings.

In 2015 the French media holding Vivendi redeemed at first 80% of shares of Dailymotion, but the same year increased the share to 90%. Before the hosting belonged to Orange company which acquired 49% of its shares in 2011 and bought in addition the remained 51% in 2013 – after the French government did not permit Yahoo to acquire a website controlling stake. In 2014 Microsoft conducted with Dailymotion negotiations on partnership for the purpose of expansion in the American market, however they were interrupted with change of the owner.

2017: In Russia one of the world's largest video hostings is forever blocked

Work of the French video hosting of Dailymotion in the territory of Russia is blocked. Such decision was made by Moscow City Court in response to the claim submitted by the Russian TV channel "Friday!". The channel complained that Dailymotion spreads some projects "Fridays!" on which broadcast has no rights in access, reports CNews TASS news agency[1].

Judicial proceedings

It is about broadcasts "Revizorro", "Magazzino", "Patsanki" and others. For 2016. "Friday!" several times sent to the main office Dailymotion of a claim, however it did not yield results therefore as a result the channel took legal action. "Friday!" is a part of Gazprom Media holding.

At the beginning it was talked specifically of the Magazzino broadcast. In May, 2016 the Moscow City Court decided to delete compulsorily content connected with this project from the website Dailymotion. The instruction was executed, however in August of the same year the video hosting began to spread releases of the reality show "Patsanki" which is also released "by Friday!".

After that the channel submitted a claim already for blocking of Dailymotion in Russia which was satisfied on December 2, 2016. As the French side did not submit the appeal, the verdict of court was sent to Roskomnadzor which should apply permanent blocking against the website.
