Documents sent by Data I/O to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said the ransomware virus attack began on August 16, 2025. As a result of the incident, "critical operating systems" related, in particular, to the production and delivery of products were disabled. The company had to urgently take containment measures to protect its global IT network: this required the shutdown of computer systems affected by the attack.

Data I/O has involved third-party information security experts in the investigation of the incident. The company acknowledged that the expected costs associated with the introduction of the ransomware virus, payment for specialist services and the restoration of services will have a significant impact on the results of its operations and financial position. The timing of the resumption of work as of the end of August 2025 is not reported. Data I/O does not disclose the scale of information leakage and the requirements put forward by attackers. None of the cybercriminal groups claimed responsibility for the intrusion.[1]
