2025: Death of a 3-year-old female patient

In November 2025, anesthesiologist of private dentistry Dent Park Ortho (Astana) Aida Zhumagalieva appeared in court. Through her fault, on October 30, 2024, a 3-year-old patient died, parents say. The girl was treated with 18 teeth at a time with general anesthesia.

"Italic" found out the circumstances of the incident. According to the conclusion of the forensic medical examination, the cause of death was cerebral edema caused by hypoxia.

A 3-year-old girl has died at Dent Park Ortho Dental Clinic in Astana. She was treated with 18 teeth at a time

According to the lawyer of the victim's family Ruslan Aitzhanov, both doctors who performed dental procedures, a dentist and a resuscitator, are to blame for the incident. Aitzhanov stressed that the proposal to treat 18 teeth at a time (instead of the originally planned 9-11) came from a dentist.

The lawyer claims that the capnograph used in the treatment of the child did not function correctly, and the medicines used were not certified and expired. Therefore, the injured party applies for prosecution of the clinic administration.

As "Italic" writes, so far only anesthesiologist Aida Zhumagalieva has been brought to criminal responsibility under the article "Improper performance of professional duties by a medical worker." She faces imprisonment for up to 4 years. According to the lawyer, Zhumagalieva's initial qualification is a general practitioner. She retrained as an anesthesiologist in 2019.

The head of the dental institution, Nadezhda Hon, said that since October 2024, the clinic has stopped providing services using general anesthesia. Anesthesiologist Aida Zhumagalieva was fired on the day of the incident. The dentist who conducted the treatment continues to work in the clinic.

"Italic" notes that the incident occurred against the background of systemic problems in Kazakhstan medicine. In March 2022, a similar case was recorded in Uralsk with the fatal outcome of a 45-year-old patient due to improper medical care.[1]
