Digg
The well-known social news Digg portal was sold in the summer of 2012 of Betaworks company of all for $500 thousand. The Wall Street Journal edition with reference to three informed sources reported about it. The buyer of Digg, Betaworks company is located in New York and is engaged in development of IT projects. She intends to revive Digg, having returned it once very great popularity.
It is worth remembering that Digg was the first popular service, constructed on the concept of the news created and estimated by users. In many respects thanks to Digg the concept of "karma" affirmed as the Internet (votes of users for a topic).
Nevertheless, despite the being available large audience in 2007-2009, Digg it was not succeeded to secure the status of Internet giant. The portal lost a considerable part of visitors, having in many respects lost the competition in the market of social news of Facebook social network and to the Twitter microblogging service.
Representatives of Digg confirmed officially the transaction with Betaworks, having announced that the New York firm purchased at Digg a brand, the website, all technologies and other assets. However, financial terms of transaction officially do not reveal.
According to the TechCrunch edition with reference to own sources, the digit in $500 thousand sounded by the author of Wall Street Journal is strongly underestimated and is not true. In reality transaction amount was "much more, than $500 thousand".
