2024: Criminal case of fraud in the construction of a hospital
The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case on fraud during the construction of a hospital in Bratsk, Irkutsk region, in the amount of ₽67 million. The contract for the construction of the district hospital was concluded between the regional state institution "Unified Customer in the Construction of the Irkutsk Region" and the contractor in December 2021. The cost of work exceeded ₽560 million, and the completion of construction was planned in July 2024. During the audit of the prosecutor's office, it turned out that in April and December 2023 additional agreements were concluded, according to which more than ₽200 million advance payments were transferred to the contractor. However, some of these funds were stolen and not used for their intended purpose.
The prosecutor's office of the Irkutsk region found that the contractor violated the deadlines for the work provided for by the contract, and the hospital building has not yet been put into operation. Earlier it was reported that according to the project, the hospital was supposed to be built by July 2024, but the discovered violations led to a delay in the implementation of the project.[1]
