DreamWorks also known to LLC as DreamWorks Pictures, DreamWorks SKG or DreamWorks Studios is the known film company of the USA which is engaged in development, producing and rolling of movies, animated films, video games and TV programs. She produced more than ten movies whose box office exceeded a mark of 100 million dollars. The most profitable of them at the moment is "Shrek 2".
History of the company
The company was founded after Katzenberg left The Walt Disney Company in 1994. Officially the studio was founded on October 12, 1994 with an investment of $33 million each of three main partners, and $500 million more were invested in the company by one of founders of Microsoft Paul Allen. DreamWorks Interactive is the division of DreamWorks SKG which is engaged in development of computer and video games (it is founded in 1995). The Peacekeeper (1997) became the first full-length film of DreamWorks.
In 1998 DreamWorks released the full-length animated film "Ant Antts". In 1999, 2000 and 2001 of DreamWorks won three Oscar in a row for movies "Beauty in American", "Gladiator" and "Beautiful Mind" (the last two were created together with Universal). On February 24, 2000 the Electronic Arts company announced acquisition of division of DreamWorks Interactive and its merge to EA Pacific and Westwood Studios. DreamWorks Interactive became EA Los Angeles (EALA) company. The DreamWorks Records record company which first project was George Michael's album "Older" never was too successful, and was sold in October, 2003 to the Universal Music Group company managing DreamWorks Nashville label.
The label stopped existence in 2005 when it was left by the key contractor, Toby Keith to create own label. Year after year the studio shows fine financial performance that in particular concerns its animation movies. DreamWorks Animation in cooperation with Pacific Data Images (nowadays known as PDI/DreamWorks) in 1996 created the movies making great success the Ant Antts (1998), Prinze of Egypt (1998), Shrek (2001), his sequels Shrek 2 (2004) and Shrek the Third (2007); Underwater friends (2004), Madagascar (2005), Forest friends (2006), Be also washed away! (2006). Making such success behind shoulders, the company became the public company. PDI/DreamWorks became the main competitor of Pixar company, long time being the indisputable leader in the field of a computer-generated imagery (California is located in the city of Redvud-city).
In recent years the company experiences a number of difficulties. It did not turn out to get hi-tech studio, and some TV series, for example, Las Vegas, Carpoolers, and On the Lot were put in production. Recently David Giffen, the owner of a komaniya of Geffen Records, said that DreamWorks was in a step from bankruptcy twice. The studio transferred losses of $125 million which were brought by the movie "Sindbad: The legend of seven seas" and also it was necessary to suffer losses in communication by the fact that DVD with the movie "Shrek 2" was released by unfairly big circulation.
