2021: Russia sent the first complaint in its history to the ECHR
Russia sent an interstate complaint[1] to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against Ukraine, the first in its history. List of claims:
- deaths during Euromaidan in 2014, in a fire in the House of Trade Unions in Odessa and during an operation in the Donbass;
- death and destruction of property "as a result of shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the neighboring territory of the Russian Federation";
- crash of MH17 in 2014. Ukraine has not closed its airspace over the war zone;
- discrimination against the Russian-speaking population and displacement of the Russian language from the public sphere;
- depriving the inhabitants of Donbass of the possibility of participating in elections to central authorities;
- water blockade of Crimea;
- the practice of suppressing freedom of speech and harassing dissenters by banning the work of the media and journalists.
