2022: Austria gets wireless charging for electric vehicles
On June 20, 2022, it became known that two cities in Austria, Vienna and Graz, began implementing the eTaxi Austria project, in which 10 taxi parking lots and 66 electric vehicles will be equipped with the Matrix Charging system, an automated charging technology developed by Easelink.
eTaxi Austria is supported by a project consortium. Its members include the Chambers of Economics of Vienna and Styria, Wien Energie and Energie Graz, Easelink GmbH, Grazer Energieagentur, tbw research GesmbH, Taxi 40100 and Taxi 31300, and vibe moves you and Quintessenz Organissberatung. The project also involves the OAMTC auto club and Volkswagen and Hyundai.
Hyundai (Ioniq 5) and Volkswagen (ID.4) electric vehicles will automatically charge using Easelink's Matrix Charging solution. According to the report, a conductive system will be used to charge electric vehicles: instead of connecting the electric vehicle to the charging station using a cable, these electric vehicles, equipped with a connector on the bottom, can be connected to the charging panel in the taxi parking lot at the touch of a button. The taxi charges automatically, while the driver does not need to get out of the car.
According to a press release, the location of the project at the Simmering power plant resembles a regular taxi parking lot: three charging panels of the system were installed directly on the roadway in parking spaces located one after another. The charging power of 11 kW and transmission efficiency of 99% set during the pilot project will increase, the target is 22 kW for AC charging and 50 kW (at 400 volts) or 100 kW (at 800 volts) for DC charging. Charging panels are also connected to the load control system from Wien Energie, which allows you to adjust the required charging power in the taxi parking lot.[1]
