2020: MediaTek purchased division of Intel Enpirion Power Solutions for 2.4 billion yuans
In the middle of November, 2020 it became known of sale of division of Intel Enpirion Power Solutions of MediaTek company. The cost of the transaction was about 2.4 billion yuans (about $85 million at the rate of at the time of the message about the reached agreement).
MediaTek issued acquisition of Enpirion Power Solutions through subsidiary company — Richtek. It is going to close the transaction until the end of 2020. Its participants did not begin to open any details of the agreement.
Within Enpirion Power Solutions company, Intel got which together with the absorbed producer of Altera chips, pulse converters of tension are developed. It is about complete solutions of PowerSoC — the lowering pulse converters of a power supply (DC/DC transformers) with a high integration scale which part power keys, a throttle, the PWM controller and also the high-frequency filtering condensers are.
Having purchased these assets, MediaTek will be able to expand a product line and to provide the integrated highly effective solutions of power management for FPGA, SoC, CPU and ASIC, considerably having increased the competitiveness and efficiency of proposed solutions.
According to the Gizmochina edition, one of the reasons of interest of MediaTek in improvement of own controllers of power management could become receipt of the large order from Google on integration of a product line of Intel Enpirion.
Chips of power management are usually used in devices which use rechargeable batteries as power sources. They are responsible for conversion and distribution of power supply. These chips are also used power managements of electrical energy in an electronic equipment. Generally they are used for transfer of tension and current to microprocessors, sensors, etc.[1]
