History
2023: IT Infrastructure Failure
In mid-February 2023, international high-speed rail operator Eurostar began sending emails to its users, requiring them to reset passwords to improve information security within the service. However, many faced technical problems, due to which their accounts were blocked.
Eurostar sent emails to its users on 13 February 2023 asking them to reset passwords from their accounts to improve security. Many customers of the company even took these letters for phishing, these attacks are used to steal valuable data: bank card details, login and password to log into an account on any site. But Eurostar representatives confirmed their newsletter, which was indeed sent from the company's official email.
Users who followed the link from Eurostar encountered technical problems due to which they could not reset their password or log in to their account. After each successful login attempt since February 13, users see a notification about the mandatory password reset. It prevents clients from accessing their account until the password is reset. However, the reset itself does not occur due to a technical error in the service.
The sudden increase in the number of customers who tried to reset their password caused some technical difficulties. We are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, "the Eurostar website says. |
The last time Eurostar used a massive password reset was in 2018, when the data was leaked. However, then everything went much better. Eurostar acknowledged the problem in mid-February 2023 and wrote in an appeal to customers that the technical team is working hard to resolve it as quickly as possible.[1]
