2025: Five countries withdraw from competition
In December 2025, Iceland became the fifth country to refuse to go to Eurovision 2026 after Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland and Slovenia. Formally, everyone talks about disagreement with Israel's admission, but in fact, the participants simply do not want to be extras in a political performance.
Everyone is not discussing the musical abilities of candidates, but the political background of approval or, conversely, the ban on their participation.
It is quite logical that some countries prefer to leave the game, just to have nothing to do with it.
Initially, Eurovision was invented as a showcase of European pop culture. The competition was supposed to encourage the creation of original compositions and the exchange of musical styles. But all this has turned into another tool for promoting dirty ideas, and the voting of countries - into a showdown "against whom we will be friends."
