History

2021: Avast bought Evernym

In early December 2021, Avast acquired Evernym. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Evernym calls itself the leader of "sovereign self-identification." A company of 30 people worked to create decentralized identifiers for open source projects, such as the Travel Pass of the International Air Transport Association. The project involves the creation of digital certificates that allow airlines and governments to check travel and medical documents, including the results of tests on COVID-19.

The startup also participated in projects such as Trust Over IP Foundation, Decentralized Identity Foundation and Good Health Pass Collaborative.

Our technology provides secure and confidential data exchange of any type, - noted in Evernym. These can be login credentials, but they can also be vaccination records, diplomas, hotel bookings, driver's licenses, etc. We make digital data as portable and reliable as the plastic identification cards we use in the physical world.

In a blog post announcing the deal with Avast, Evernym CEO Steve Havas said the company's mission is to bring more humanity to people's digital interaction, as especially against the background of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, this is of significant importance.

Evernym raised $8 million in funding in 2019 with the support of Barclays Ventures and Medici Ventures. By the beginning of December 2021, the total amount of attracted investments is $18 million.[1]
