2021: Desktop Metal bought ExOne for $575 million
In early August 2021, Desktop Metal announced the acquisition of ExOne for $575 million. Under the terms of the agreement, all ordinary shares of the ExOn will be transferred to Desktop Metal.
In the last two years, we have really focused on providing our technology for government applications: DoD, NASA, DoE. Sometimes people talk about disrupting the supply chain and decentralizing production. This is decentralized and advanced production, if you want. Whether it be an emergency, a humanitarian mission or a military front, "said ExOne Director General John Hartner. |
Desktop Metal believes that the integration of ExOne and its offers for inkjet 3D printing of metals and sand binders will create a solid portfolio that combines performance, flexibility and a wide range of materials. The company also wants to combine the ExOne direct sales team with the 200 thousand distribution network of Desktop Metal partners, which will provide greater access to additive production solutions for enterprises of all sizes.
We are very happy to join ExOne with the DM family to create a leading portfolio of additive manufacturing for mass production. We believe this acquisition will provide customers with more choice as we use our complementary technologies and market entry efforts to drive further growth. This deal is a big step in realizing our vision of accelerating the introduction of additive production 2.0, "said Rick Fulop, CEO of Desktop Metal, in a release. |
Desktop Metal has been actively seeking acquisitions to expand its 3D printing portfolio since it announced plans to enter the exchange through SPAC in August 2021.[1]
