Since 1991, scientists from the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor have developed thousands of methods in the field of molecular diagnostics, more than 200 of them are registered in the Russian Federation and the CIS countries, about 300 diagnostic kits are registered in the European Union and other countries.
The Institute of Epidemiology has developed kits to diagnose all the dangerous natural focal infections that have ever visited our country - cholera, anthrax, plague, "bird" and "swine" flu. (At the same time, the first developments of competitors appeared two years later, when Russian kits for determining the "swine" flu were already registered.)

The government allocated 1.09 billion rubles to Rospotrebnadzor to study infections in other countries
In early April 2022, an order signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to allocate more than 1 billion rubles to Rospotrebnadzor to study infections outside Russia was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
According to the document, funds in the amount of 1,093,9 million rubles will be allocated in 2022-2024. To finance the costs of the center "Vector" and the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor. The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation has been instructed to ensure financing of expenses from budgetary allocations from 2022.
In accordance with the order of the Government of the Russian Federation, the structures of Rospotrebnadzor will have to use the allocated funds to support services for the prevention and diagnosis of infectious diseases in the territories of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia. The money will be directed in stages: in 2022 - up to 464.2 million rubles, in 2023 - up to 327.8 million rubles, in 2024 - up to 301.9 million rubles.
The Government of the Russian Federation announces similar budget allocations almost annually. So, in 2019, up to 407 million rubles were planned for the institutions of health care and science subordinate to Rospotrebnadzor - for "events on scientific, methodological and material and technical support of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" in the field of countering infectious diseases. In 2020-2022, five organizations were to receive funds, including the Vector Center and the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology.
Earlier, the president Russia Vladimir Putin said that the country should have a "powerful reliable shield in the field of sanitary and biological safety," created with the maximum use of domestic equipment and components. When an infection comparable in danger to a coronavirus appears, it must COVID-19 Russia be ready to create its own test systems and an effective vaccine in a short time, he said.

Discovery of the Laboratory of Molecular Diagnostics and Respiratory Tract Infections
In January 2022, a laboratory for molecular diagnostics and epidemiology of respiratory tract infections was opened at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, headed by Svetlana Yatsyshina. Prior to that, she headed the scientific group for the development of new methods for diagnosing acute respiratory infections (NG RNMD ORZ).
According to the press service of Rospotrebnadzor, the equipped laboratory room covers an area of 180 sq.m. The laboratory is in a separate structure and has all the necessary equipment, taking into account the standards of work by methods of amplification of nucleic acids, the department said.
The new laboratory is a huge step to develop developments in diagnostic methods and the process of studying the epidemiology of respiratory tract infections. It will solve the most pressing problems of practical medicine of the present time.
At the opening of the Laboratory of Molecular Diagnostics and Epidemiology of Respiratory Tract Infections at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, Viktor Maleev, Advisor to the Director for Scientific Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology, noted the special importance of introducing such a unit into the structure of the Central Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, separately adding that respiratory infections are always the main ones in the system of infectious diseases.
Our scientific team, we are all very glad that we can bring our scientific ideas to life, create something new and necessary in the field of diagnostics, and benefit people. Now there are more opportunities for this, and we are grateful for it, - said Svetlana Yatsyshina. |
According to the director of TsNIIE Vasily Akimkin, the laboratory solves the most pressing problems that arise before practical medicine. How much money was spent on the creation of this laboratory is not reported by the end of January 2022.[1]
