The purpose of FIDO Alliance is development of standards of strict authentication for access to online resources (UAF and U2F) and also ensuring safe strict authentication of users on different Web resources, regardless of that from where and from what device the user works.
FIDO represents perspective model of authentication in which providing cryptographic confirmation of credentials is required. At the same time the convenience to users who before emergence of the solution FIDO had to be authorized repeatedly in different services, for example, for access to the bank account or e-mail increases. The FIDO system also promotes preserving of confidentiality of data, raising the trust level.
Testing of certification of FIDO is based on methods, standard for the industry, and objectively estimates technical implementation of the FIDO UAF and FIDO U2F specifications. Certification of FIDO is available to all who would like to use identification of FIDO in the products and services compatible to technical requirements of FIDO.
FIDO 2.0
The authentication system of users opened, based on standards which replaces passwords with the advanced identifiers FIDO intended for more effective counteraction to cyber attacks including a phishing and date leaks. Users can use the smart cards of HID containing the identifiers FIDO 2.0 without any additional settings. Microsoft provides support of FIDO 2.0 in web browsers, cloud applicaions and in most OS Windows, expanding opportunities for safer authentication in scales of all Internet.
2018
On May 11, 2018 the HID Global company announced continuation of cooperation with Microsoft. The companies propose the solution giving the chance to users to use smart cards for an input in Microsoft Windows, devices and cloud applicaions and the excluding use for these purposes only of the login and the password. The solution for authentication on the basis of the FIDO 2.0 standard combines examination of HID in the field of authentication with experience of Microsoft, adding one more security level for protection against new, more serious threats.
