Performance Indicators
2018: Growth of reserves to record $2.74 billion
On March 6, 2019 it became known that reserves of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) reached record $2.74 billion. The World Cup of 2018 which took place in Russia became one of the key factors which caused financial success of FIFA. Its successful carrying out allowed FIFA to earn for the four-year cycle covering the period from 2015 to 2018, $6.4 billion that for $1.4 billion it is more than was predicted.
Income of the International Federation of Association Football gained for a four-year cycle of 2015-2018 to which the last year's World Cup held in Russia got was $6.4 billion.
It is remarkable that in 2015 the management of FIFA estimated potential income much more modestly — in four years the organization intended to earn no more than $5 billion.
Effects of the corruption scandal which burst just in 2015 were the cause of such assessment (presidents of FIFA and UEFA Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini who received long disqualifications became its most noticeable victims). On a scandal wave many sponsors of FIFA doubted expediency of continuation of cooperation with it. But, as it became clear, concerns were excessive. As a result of soon FIFA corrected the forecast for income — to $6.1 billion.
As a result for cycle 2015-2018 the net profit of FIFA was about $1 billion. As a result, its reserves reached record $2.74 billion.
Financial success of FIFA considerably strengthens positions of its president Gianni Infantino. In 2015 when he was for the first time elected to this post, his critics considered that Infantino's intention to transfer more money to national federations simply will ruin FIFA. However the organization quietly financed nearly 950 different programs of development of soccer for $270 million Besides, selected $832 million more for support of national federations and continental confederations of FIFA.
And in cycle 2019-2022 for support of "regions" it is going to spend in total already $1.746 billion. It is remarkable that the president of FIFA costs the organizations much cheaper, than earlier. Last year he received $1.9 million plus a bonus — $550 thousand. The previous year Infantino's salary was $1.61 million. For comparison: Sepp Blatter received basic salary in $3 million Besides, after the World Cups to him big bonus — $11 million in 2010 and $12 million in the 2014th were paid.
As for a possibility of further building of income, it in many respects depends on whether Gianni Infantino will be possible to implement two large projects — the global League of Nations and a club world championship. According to the president of FIFA, he already got support of the investors ready to invest in development of these tournaments $25 billion in 12 years. These projects are actively opposed by UEFA, but[1] nevertheless does not refuse intention to advance the ideas of Infantino[2].
2014: The size of reserves — $1.523 billion
Income of the International Federation of Association Football gained for a four-year cycle of 2011-2014 when the World Cup in Brazil was held reached $5.718 billion. After the FIFA World Cup of 2014 monetary reserves of FIFA were estimated at $1.523 billion.
