Service Closure
In early June 2021, the social network of former President Donald Trump was permanently closed a month after launch. The Donald Trump desktop page was removed from Trump's website and "will not return again," said Jason Miller, senior assistant to the former president.
This was only an aid to the larger initiatives we are working on, Miller said. |
An aide to the former president refused to provide additional information about these initiatives, although he promised to talk about them in the near future. Miller was also asked if the move was a "precursor" to the former president's joining "another social media platform," and he replied:
Yes, it is. Watch for updates! |
and Facebook Twitter banned Trump from publishing messages on their platforms after the president's supporters invaded USA the Capitol on January 6. The leadership of social networks considers this to be the consequences of Trump's publications, which has repeatedly stated on social networks about fraud and deception during the 2020 presidential election.
Trump and his allies have long accused the leadership of social networks of political biases and a penchant for censorship. The former president intended to deploy an alternative platform, but his blog, introduced in May and originally announced as a new "communication platform," was unable to resist the largest social networks.
Miller explained that the "From Donald Trump's Desktop" page was "an excellent resource" to search for Trump's statements, "but cannot become a new platform for social networks." The blog could not attract even former Trump supporters - if at the time of expulsion from social networks in January, Trump had tens of millions of Twitter followers and millions on Facebook, then the blog could not collect even a tenth of this number.[1]
Start of service
In early May 2021, Donald Trump launched his own "communication platform." With her help, the former US president intends to communicate with his supporters.
A service called From the Desk of Donald J. Trump ("From the desktop of Donald J. Trump") allows Trump to publish statements, photos and videos, and his supporters to post them on social networks. However, they will not be able to leave their comments on the content.
Trump's senior adviser Jason Miller explained that so far "this is not a new social media platform," but "an excellent resource for finding his latest statements and highlights since his first presidential term
By May 5, 2021, Trump's website consists of one page - visitors are invited to buy products with Trump's campaign slogan Make America Rate Again, but the purchase button does not lead anywhere. The donation feature presented on the page also does not work yet.
Earlier, Donald Trump launched the 45office.com website with a similar purpose. Supporters and journalists can contact him through the platform. The site has only three pages: biographies of the 45th president and first lady of the United States, the section "share your thoughts," as well as "for the press."
According to one of the Fox News sources surrounded by Trump, the former president does not have access to social networks, because he transmits his messages to supporters who publish his messages in their accounts on his behalf.
Trump was deprived of the opportunity to communicate on social networks in the last weeks of his tenure as president of the United States. The locks came after the riots that Republican supporters planted in the Capitol. In March 2021 , Trump hoped to return to social networks, but by May his actions were limited to the Save America platform.[2]
