2011: An input in the structure of eBay

In March, 2011 the eBay company announced intention to purchase the conducting solution provider for e-commerce[1]. For each stock of the public American company $29.25-51% more than the cost of securities at the time of closing are offered on March 25. Transaction amount which is going to be closed in the III quarter 2011 will be about $2.4 billion. A part of means of eBay will take on credit. During the period till May 6, 2011 a competition under the terms of which at eBay it will be right the last will be held to raise a rate.

"We intend to head a new wave of innovations in the field of commerce, - the president and the chief executive officer of eBay John Donahoe said. - Acquisition of GSI offering the widest service package for e-commerce and interactive marketing will significantly strengthen our capability to establish connection with buyers and sellers around the world".

Purchasing GSI, eBay aims to leave in an e-commerce segment, let and not as it does Amazon.

With development of the Internet to do the main rate on auctions there is no more sense especially as this segment considerably concedes on growth rates of online stores in which in view of convenience more and more buyers direct. According to Forrester Research, during the period from 2010 to 2015 the size of the market of e-commerce only in the USA will grow from $176 billion to $279 billion, i.e. approximately for 60%. eBay wants a part of "pie".

According to Donakhyyu, after acquisition GSI will work as separate division under the leadership of Chris Saridakis, the current managing director of the GSI group on development of marketing solutions. Activity of eBay and GSI will be directed to service of the small and large companies using platforms of eBay, PayPal and GSI. At the same time, the director specified, they are not going to make the direct competition of Amazon - i.e. to independently sell goods on the platforms.
