In 2009 the Genivi group into which for July, 2010 entered BMW Group by General Motors PSA Peugeot Citroen Hyundai Motor Renault Samsung LG Garmin, Alpine Electronics Pioneer Intel ARM Nvidia, Renesas Technology, NXP Semiconductors, Freescale and other companies was created.
Task of Genivi is creation of sample solutions which members of the group will be able to use as the base for creation of ready-made consumer solutions. In this case they should incur minimum flows on independent development hardware and the software. Such wagon train, the purpose of group is cost reduction and terms of an output to the market of finished goods and also formation of a uniform ecosystem within which unit-to-unit compatibility of different brands will be provided.
History
In July, 2010 Genivi announced the choice of the MeeGo platform as a basis for the information and entertaining systems giving the chance of use of navigation, video playback and music, connection of wireless devices and Internet connection from a seat of the driver or the passenger in the car or other vehicle. According to ABI Research, in 2010 the volume of the world market of the information and entertaining systems (In-Vehicle Infotainment — IVI) in terms of money will be $29.5 billion.
