2022: In the Kursk region, a case was opened against an anesthesiologist to send a living patient to the morgue
In November 2022, the criminal case of the anesthesiologist-resuscitator of the Gorshechensky Central District Hospital, who sent a living patient to the morgue, was sent for further investigation to the Department for Especially Important Cases of the Department of the Investigative Committee for the Kursk Region.
According to local media, we are talking about an incident that occurred in August 2020. Then the pensioner was admitted to the hospital with abdominal pain. According to "Kursk Izvestia," the patient was suspected of intestinal obstruction. During the operation, a malignant tumor and metastases were found. According to the publication, citing a source, the patency of the intestines was restored, but after the operation, the woman had a clinical death. She was resuscitated for 30-40 minutes, but to no avail. There was no breathing, the pulse did not feel and there were no signs of life. Doctors pronounced death. After that, the patient was sent to the morgue, where in the morning the doctor who came saw that the woman was alive.
The investigation considered that due to the erroneous decision of the young girl doctor, the patient was in the morgue for a long time without the necessary supervision and medical care, as a result of which her death occurred. A criminal case was initiated against a young girl doctor, according to which investigative actions have now begun in the department for especially important cases of the Investigation Department for the Kursk Region.
The source explained to the publication that in district hospitals there is often no equipment that can record brain activity. It is such technologies that determine exactly whether a person is alive or dead. In areas, death is determined by external signs. If the heart hits once a minute, then the doctor may not hear it, Kursk Izvestia states[1]
