Total vineyard area. Geography

Vineyards are located at the beginning of the Small Caucasus Mountains (Semisamsky Range) at an altitude of 300-320 meters above sea level. 14 varieties, mostly from the Rhone Valley, average age 10 years. The seedlings were purchased from one of the best nurseries in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape region.

Terroir

The plots are located in the mountains, have quite poor and rocky soil, which is ideal precisely for growing high-quality grape varieties. The Lesser Caucasus Mountains originate from the Semisam Range, which is located near Gai-Kodzor. On almost all sides, vineyards surround the mountains. Due to this, its own special microclimate is formed, differing in both precipitation and temperature differences from other areas. The fertile layer of land is minimal. After it, mountain beds with a high content of marl and limestone begin. The Black Sea is located 5 kilometers from the vineyards.

Since the spring of 2015, the winery in the village of Gai-Kodzor near Anapa has been owned by the structures of businessman Roman Abramovich, the Vedomosti newspaper wrote. Investments in the project were estimated at $3-5 million. In March 2019, Chateau Guy-Kodzor announced the launch of a new winery. Vineyards with an area of 70 hectares grow 14 varieties of grapes, mainly the origin of the seedlings was from the Rhone Valley. For the retail segment, a line of three wines is produced: chardonnay, merlot grenache and shiraz, each of 50 to 65 thousand bottles per year. Most of the project (70%) belongs to Marina Goncharova, deputy general director of the Millhouse owned by Abramovich, and the wife of the billionaire's longtime partner Zaruya Shvidler. The Schwidler family owned vineyards in the south of France before participating in this project.
