2022: Hitachi Digital will be responsible for the IT-Business at Hitachi
In early February 2022, Hitachi announced a restructuring of its business. The changes, which will come into force on April 1, 2022, will simplify the company's management structure based on three sectors: digital systems and services, green energy and mobility.
According to the plan, the current American Hitachi Global Digital Holdings, which controls Hitachi Vantara and Hitachi Consulting, has been renamed Hitachi Digital and will be responsible for implementing global digital strategies throughout the Hitachi Group. At the same time, the current chairman and CEO of Hitachi Digital, Toshiaki Tokunaga, will take the post of chairman of the digital systems and services division, and June Taniguchi, president of Hitachi Global Life Solutions, will be appointed CEO. GlobalLogic CEO Shashank Samant will serve as Tokunaga's executive adviser and support Hitachi Group's overall digital business strategy, and Hitachi Vantara CEO Gajen Kandiah will take the parallel position of head of digital transformation of the newly emerged digital systems and services division.
Regarding the achievements of its innovation goal, Hitachi representatives said that the current future investment department and the corporate venture office will be merged to create a growth strategy department, and President Keiji Kojima will simultaneously hold the position of CEO.
Automation needs are growing rapidly in the manufacturing industry due to labor shortages, the retirement of highly skilled workers and the reduction of process engineers. Against this background, Hitachi has focused on strengthening its robotic systems business through mergers and acquisitions in Japan and the United States since 2019. I am confident that Hitachi Automation, which will be created through the reorganization and integration of the group's resources, will help solve the problems faced by customers in the manufacturing industry in Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations countries, "said Kazunobu Morita, Hitachi CEO for Industry and Distribution[1] |
