2016: Creation of the company
On May 10, 2016 Hitachi announced creation of division which will be responsible for projects of the company in the market of Internet of Things (Internet of Things, IoT). Also Japanese conglomerate announced intention to invest nearly $3 billion in development of this business.
The new structure received the name Hitachi Insight Group, its headquarters will be in Santa Clara (California, the USA). The division will integrate all aspects of IoT-business of the producer.
As the head of Hitachi Insight Group Keiji Kojima told the Bloomberg agency, according to the results of the financial year closed on March 31 the 2016th of sale to the company in the market of Internet of Things $5.4 billion were measured, having reached about 6% in total revenue of conglomerate. By May, 2016 Hitachi brought 33 solutions to the IoT-market and signed partnership agreements with a number of the large IT companies, including with Intel, Microsoft and SAP.
Hitachi Insight Group will integrate not only IoT-initiatives of corporation, but also the digital directions. As a result of such merge the producer hopes to increase a share in the world market of Internet of Things to which analysts of IDC predict growth to $1.46 trillion by 2020. The new division will develop IoT-projects in four key segments with a view to "smart" technologies: industry, health care, power and town planning.
The open Lumada IoT-platform which integrated a number of commercial developments of Hitachi became the first product Hitachi Insight Group. It will be offered in the form of a set of the components necessary for a certain customer. This platform will include technologies of integration of the equipment, applications and data, means of analytics, transfer and data processing, modeling tools, the systems of artificial intelligence and corporate services. Main advantages of Lumada developers call openness, adaptability and security.
According to Keydzhi Kodzhima, in 2016-2018 Hitachi invests about $2.8 billion in development of the IoT-business. Money, in particular, will go for acquisitions of participants of this market and also own research and development. Directly the division of Hitachi Insight Group will receive 100 billion yens ($918 million).[1]
