The name of the used virus racketeer is not disclosed, but local authorities reported that cyber attack put out of action of 30 servers. It is supposed that malefactors used vulnerability in "widely used commercial software". According to the ARS Technica edition, after cyber attack CERT-Bund, the German body for cyber security, placed on Twitter blog the reference to the January notification on security concerning critical vulnerability in the controller of delivery of applications Citrix.

All data on the struck servers were ciphered, but hackers provided requirements not to the hospital of Düsseldorf, but the Heinrich Heine University of Dusseldorf which it treats. The authorities addressed hackers and reported that they as a result of cyber attack suffered hospital, but not the university that threatened lives of patients. Malefactors immediately withdrew the requirements about the redemption and provided a key for interpretation of data, however it did not help the died patient any more. The authorities of Germany began investigation concerning the persons standing behind the attack on suspicion of manslaughter by negligence.[1]
