2022: Veritas Capital bought Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for $2.8 billion
In mid-February 2022, private investment company Veritas Capital bought Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. The deal amounted to $2.8 billion.
The management of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, which by mid-February 2022 serves more than 50 million students and 4 million teachers in 150 countries, said in a press release that this acquisition will allow the company to expand the range of its products and reach more students and teachers around the world.
The partnership with Veritas will give HMH the opportunity to accelerate our momentum and increase our impact... It is time to move on to the next stage of our long-term growth strategy with a partner with significant industry experience. As the prospect of digital learning is increasingly spreading across the country, we are confident that this deal will expand our ability to provide educational solutions to even more teachers and their students, invest in our committed team, and have a positive impact on the communities we are committed to, - said the president and chief executive officer of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Jack Lynch, who will continue to lead the company along with the current management. |
The deal was unanimously approved by the board of directors of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the company said, and it is expected to be completed by July 1, 2022 "subject to obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals and fulfilling normal closing conditions."[1]
