Opening of world's largest solar power plant in Cáceres province
In August 2022, Iberdrola launches Europe's largest photovoltaic plant in the province of Cáceres. The solar power plant was commissioned with an installed capacity of 590 megawatts.
More than 300 million euros were invested in the development of this world's largest photovoltaic installation of the Iberdrola group. The project also created more than 1,500 jobs.
Energy production at the site will also prevent the release of 150,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. Iberdrola will also supply 100% renewable electricity from this plant to companies such as Danone, Bayer and PepsiCo to cover the energy needs of its centers in Spain.
Court ruling forces Iberdrola to dismantle Europe's largest photovoltaic station
Courts in June 2022 ordered Iberdrola to dismantle Europe's largest photovoltaic station, Núñez de Balboa, in the province of Badajoz and return 500 hectares of land on which it is located to its owner on the grounds that they were illegally expropriated.
The plant was commissioned on April 6, 2020 with an installed capacity of 500 megawatts MW and an investment of about 300 million euros.
These Núñez de Balboa facilities have 1,430,000 solar panels, 115 solar inverters and two substations.
The plant generates clean energy to meet the needs of 250,000 people a year (equivalent to the population of the cities of Cáceres and Badajoz).
For its construction, Iberdrola received green financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Official Credit Institute (ICO).
