2024: Construction Project
The founder and managing director of the Island of the First Corporation Bulat Shakirov at the end of January 2025 presented a project for the construction of the first artificial island in Russia for resort purposes off the coast of Sochi, the implementation of which is estimated at ₽1 trillion.
According to TASS, the company signed a pre-project agreement with the Sochi organization Gor-Project. The construction of protective hydraulic structures is scheduled to begin in 2026 with the prospect of completing the entire project by 2031.
An artificial island of 50 hectares will be erected opposite the Matsestan Viaduct. The project provides for the construction of 1.5 million square meters. m of real estate, including hotels, apartments and low-rise housing. On the island there will be a marina for yachts and a tower for IT specialists.
According to Bulat Shakirov, the project will create 10 thousand new jobs. Financing will be carried out at the expense of investors and bank loans.
Senior Director of Hotel Business and Tourism CMWP Irina Akutova noted that in Russia there are already bulk islands created to ensure the safety of navigation and military purposes. Among them are Sukho Island, measuring 90 by 60 m in Lake Ladoga, Turtle Island, 59 by 38 m in the Sea of Azov and Beliy Island in St. Petersburg.
From the point of view of environmental safety, according to the expert, island structures can be more effective than bulk facilities that continue the coastline, since the latter are able to critically affect sea currents and the ecosystem.
Irina Akutova stressed that the presence of marina significantly increases the attractiveness of the resort territory, and the hotel on the island marina is an exclusive product for the tourist market.[1]
