2022: Russia retaliatory sanctions increase length of company routes
In March 2022, after the start of a special operation in Ukraine, Russia was forced to impose retaliatory sanctions against airlines of unfriendly countries, closing their access to their own airspace. This significantly increased travel time for passengers of these companies.
2021: Flights to Moscow from Haneda Airport
From April 23, 2021, Japan Airlines begins flights between Moscow and Tokyo to Sheremetyevo and Haneda airports. 1967: First flight from Moscow to Tokyo
Japan Airlines has operated continuously between Russia and Japan for many decades. The first flight in the direction of "Moscow - Tokyo" was completed from Sheremetyevo Airport on April 17, 1967 and became the first flight in the history of civil aviation along the Trans-Siberian route.
