2020: Theft of money at the company through the application of mobile operator
At the end of September, 2020 the Mail Bank of Japan (Japan Post Bank) stated that from customer accounts about 60 million yens ($570,000) were stolen, i.e. is three times more than means, than was estimated originally. The bank also warned that the damage can appear even more.
Hackers used weak points in a security system of electronic payment services and could carry out not less than 380 successful sorties. Approximately in hundred of these cases the bank knew about illegal money withdrawal, but did not pay compensation to account holders.

Originally Mail Bank of Japan reported that the damage was 22 million yens, and means were stolen during 130 hacker sorties. However the provided digits sharply grew after the bank checked reports from July, 2017 to September 22, 2020. The bank also reported that it detected suspicious transactions with involvement of accounts about 600 clients therefore the general losses can appear more.
Officials suspect that malefactors created fraudulent accounts for different electronic payment services, having issued themselves for clients of bank. Then means were brought from customer accounts to accounts of electronic services.
The bank reported that it already took precautionary measures and prohibited to link bank accounts of clients to new accounts of several different services. But authorities warned that about 5.5 million client accounts are already connected to services of electronic payments.
Being afraid that many other cases will remain unnoticed, the bank stated that it will notify clients on the existing threat by e-mail and other methods. Indemnification in the amount of 60 million yens will be complete by the end of October, reported in bank.[1]
