2023: Release of the Voice of Brodsky NFT Collection
For the birthday of Joseph Brodsky - poet, essayist, playwright, translator and teacher - an unusual NFT audio collection entitled "Brodsky's Voice" was released. This collection consists of recordings of the poet's performances in 1990 in Paris, at the Ecole Normale Superieure. The audio recording has not been published anywhere before and exists in only one copy - on a cassette that has been in the archives for more than 30 years and was digitized only in 2023. This was reported to TAdviser on May 19, 2023 by representatives of the Russian NFT marketplace Kefirium, on which this audio collection is available for purchase.
According to them, each NFT token is a digitized audio recording of one of the poems in the poet's original reading. Also in the collection there are tokens called "Attention, says the poet!," Which recorded Brodsky's answers to questions from the audience and the poet's remark.
There is only one token per poem, which means that the buyer becomes the sole owner of the NFT content. Thus, only the owner disposes of the fate of the audio - he can remain the only listener, or he can act as a philanthropist and post the recording in open access.
On the record, Joseph Brodsky reads "The century will soon end, but I will end before...," "In this small room everything is the same: an aquarium with a fish...," "Imagine that the war is over, that peace has reigned...," "Dear, I left the house today...," "On Christmas all a little magi. In food slush and stampede... "and others. The full list can be found on the collection page.
The performance is unique in that it has become a landmark in Brodsky's personal life. It was here that the first meeting of the poet and his wife Maria Sozzani took place, representatives of Kefirium noted. Maria attended Brodsky's performance in Paris and, impressed, wrote a letter to the poet. Correspondence ensued between them, and already in September 1990 a wedding took place.
Prices for tokens are democratic - for 900 rubles you can buy a token "Attention, says the poet!" with recording answers to questions from the audience, and tokens with recording poems cost from 5 to 50 thousand rubles.
NFT technology implies the right to exclusively own content sewn into a token. The tape was supposed to be burned live, but public backlash led the cassette owners to question the decision. The fate of the cassette will be decided by the owners of the tokens themselves using voting. Among the options are destruction, transfer to the museum or transfer to the ownership of one of the holders of the NFT "Voice of Brodsky."
