2024: Arrest of property from a deputy in the case of illegal mining of cryptocurrencies with damage worth millions of rubles
On December 2, 2024, it became known that the deputy of the Krivodanovsky village council was arrested property worth ₽1,2 million in the framework of the case of illegal mining of cryptocurrencies. The accused is suspected of causing damage to an energy company in the amount of ₽6,5 million by unauthorized connection to the power grid for the extraction of digital currency. This was reported by the prosecutor's office of the Novosibirsk region.
According to Interfax"," according to the investigation, the accused from June 2022 to June 2023 organized the illegal extraction of digital currency using specially purchased equipment. Mining devices were placed in a garage located in the village of Krivodanovka. To ensure the operation of the equipment, the deputy without concluding a power supply contract with JSC RES"" Rosseti Novosibirsk("") arbitrarily connected to the overhead power line.
The investigation established that the connection was made using piercing clamps to a line leading from a nearby electrical substation. Such actions violated the rules of technological connection and caused significant property damage to the regional electric grid company.
During the prosecutor's check, which became the basis for initiating a criminal case, 16 units of mining equipment were seized from the accused's garage. The property of the deputy, estimated at ₽1,2 million, was seized.
The case was initiated under paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Art. 165 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for liability for causing property damage to the owner of the property by deception on an especially large scale. The case materials were transferred to the Novosibirsk District Court for consideration.[1]
