2020: A gas leak at chemical plant
On May 7, 2020 at LG Polymers chemical plant (enters into LG Chem company) in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh there was a gas leak. At least 11 people died, more than 1000 hospitalized, and the total quantity of victims exceeded 5 thousand people. Among the dead — two elderly people and one 8-miletny child.
The Indian service of emergencies (NDFR) evacuated almost all residents of three next villages: it is reported that at the time of the publication it was succeeded to export 80-90% local. To the population of 20 neighboring villages recommended to breathe via filters from wet fabric and not to go outside, and firefighters spray a water suspension that it collected on itself particles of harmful substance.
According to Times of India, an incident occurred about 3 a.m. in the morning (0:30 a.m. Moscow time). People in the areas, neighboring to the plant, slept at this time. According to the newspaper, because of leak some inhabitants of unconscious drop on city streets. At inhabitants trouble breathing began and also rash on skin developed. The situation managed to be taken under control only 12 hours later after the incident, writes the edition.
The minister of the industry of the State of Andhra Pradesh Mekapati Gutam Reddi reported that upon incident will bring criminal case. According to Reuters, the plant prepared for resumption of work as in the region began to weaken quarantine measures for control of a coronavirus of COVID-19. A preliminary accident cause call that the plant was left without a part of personnel after introduction of quarantine measures.
The LG Polymers plant at which there was a gas leak produces polystyrene — plastic which is used for production of fibreglass, rubber and latex. It is supposed that the radius of distribution of leak was about 3 km. The facts of death of a livestock are mentioned.[1]
