LifeScan sells personal level gages of glucose in blood, test strips and testing systems. Offices of the company are in Chesterbruk (the State of Pennsylvania, the USA) and Zug (Switzerland). 2018: Johnson & Johnson sells LifeScan for $2.1 billion
On March 16, 2018 the American producer of the medical equipment Johnson & Johnson announced sale to child LifeScan for $2.1 billion the private aktsionersky company Platinum Equity. The final decision on the transaction will be made in June, 2018 as Johnson & Johnson is required to discuss a situation with workers abroad.
Platinum Equity reported that in March, 2018 the company discusses current situation with labor unions Johnson & Johnson which protect the rights of staff of the company. It is expected that the transaction will be closed by the end of 2018.
The analyst of Atlantic Equities Steve Chesney considers that assessment in $2.1 billion is too small for LifeScan (in January, 2018 to media there went information on plans of the Chinese investors to purchase the company for $3-4 billion), however is quite explainable, considering a business status. Because of the high competition of sales of goods of Johnson & Johnson, connected with treatment of diabetes, steadily fall since 2012.
Earlier Johnson & Johnson announced that in October, 2018 it is going to close the division of Animas which is engaged in production of insulin pumps as the company could not find for it the buyer. The decision on sale of division of Calibra Medical which is also engaged in insulin pumps will be accepted according to the results of the strategic overview, the press secretary of Johnson & Johnson Donna Lorenson reported Reuters agency.[1]
