History
2024: Payment by court to the operator of the LNG project "Ruskhimalliance" ₽100 billion
The Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg partially satisfied the claim of the operator of the project for the processing of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Ust-LugaLLC Ruskhimalliance against the German company Linde, deciding to pay the Russian side an amount of ₽100 billion. The lawsuit was filed in March 2024, when Ruskhimalliance declared unpaid debts from Linde for the indicated amount.
According to RBC, the German company has suspended the fulfillment of contractual obligations under the project since May 2022 in connection with the sanctions of the European Union. This led to the termination of the contract with Ruskhimalliance and the filing of claims against Linde, as well as its subsidiaries in Russia, including Linde Gas Novotroitsk, Linde Engineering Rus, Linde Gas Rus, Kriostar Rus and others. Subsequently, the Russian operator filed a petition for interim measures, providing for the seizure of funds in accounts related to Linde Holdings Netherlands and Linde UK Holdings, as well as the seizure of the company's property and shares.
In theEarlier, Linde also withdrew from the joint project for the production of cryogenic heat exchangers for the gas processing industry in Russia, which was initially carried out together with the Russian Power Machines. Later, the role of a partner in the project passed to Severstal, and then to Ruskhimalyans.
In September 2024, Ruskhimalliance initiated additional lawsuits against German banks Deutsche Bank, Unicredit Bank GmbH and Commerzbank, which refused to pay bank guarantees under a contract with Linde, citing sanctions restrictions. The arbitration court banned Deutsche Bank from filing a lawsuit against Ruskhimalyans in foreign jurisdictions, which was another protective measure for the Russian company.[1]
