2025

Launch of Russia's first lidar production for cars and drones

In early October 2025, it became known about the creation of the first production of air-laser scanning modules in Russia - lidars for cars and drones. The project is being implemented by Radar MMS on the basis of an industrial cluster of electronics and unmanned technologies in the Tomsk region.

The governor of the region Vladimir Mazur spoke about the initiative. According to him, there is no production of lidars in Russia, despite the high need for such products in various areas. Lidars, in particular, are used in robotic vehicles, special equipment and unmanned aircraft systems. Therefore, the project of the company "Radar MMS" is considered as one of the most priority within the framework of the industrial cluster in the Tomsk region.

Lidar, I note, is a device for determining the three-dimensional coordinates of object points for air-laser scanning, determining and measuring the distance to the surface of an object. I want to note that the cluster products are unique - in Russia it has no analogues, but it has a huge demand, "Mazur notes.

The main measure of support for cluster participants is concessional loans from the Industrial Development Fund of the Tomsk Region. Cluster enterprises are aimed at producing competitive products and introducing advanced developments. The result of this work is expected to be the strengthening of Russia's technological sovereignty and the emergence of new high-tech jobs in the region.

The company "Radar MMS" is engaged in the development and production of electronic systems. Among the main areas of its activity are unmanned aircraft complexes, magnetometric systems, software and hardware platforms, hydrometeorological support systems, microelectronics products, solutions for the digital city, etc.^[1]

On July 5, 2025, the North-West Transport Prosecutor's Office announced that in the Leningrad Region, near the village of Tamengont, an emergency landing on the A-120 highway was made by a light-engine plane. After landing, the aircraft ended up in a ditch. Read more here.

On October 23, 2024, it became known that the Russian companies Dayton and JSC Radar Mms Scientific and Production Enterprise are developing specialized software for checking the quality of microelectronics.
