2023: Purchase of agricultural land in the Saratov region for hundreds of millions
Agro-S agrofirm, which owns the Panfilov SEC (grows wheat, corn, soybeans, sunflower) in the Saratov region, in April 2023 came under the control of the structure of the co-owner of a large producer of fried seeds and other snacks "Martin." This is evidenced by the data of the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (USRUL).
As Kommersant writes with reference to this register, previously the Agro-S agricultural company was owned by Sergei Surmenev, a former top manager of the Bouquet Group of Companies and an ex-deputy of the Saratov City Duma. The purchase of a farm with 12 thousand hectares in the Saratov region could cost Martin 480-960 million rubles based on Sovekon's estimate of the average cost of agricultural land in the region of 40-80 thousand rubles per 1 hectare, according to the publication of the publication.
Martin is already growing sunflower for the production of snacks in southern Russia. According to the sources of the publication in the industry, we can talk from 50 thousand to 100 thousand hectares, mainly in the south.
Director of Sovekon Andrei Sizov explains that the production of fried seeds requires a special confectionery sunflower with larger seeds and the purchased farm can be used for this culture. But for the return on investment, new owners may need to expand the land bank, he adds. Experts called the indicator 30-50 thousand hectares optimal for the cluster.
Dmitry Rylko, general director of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, notes that investments in agriculture to ensure processing with their own crop raw materials often do not justify themselves if we are not talking about perishable products. According to him, confectionery sunflower has less yield than oilseed, the crop is quite capricious, and crops usually occupy 20-25% of crop rotation.[1]
