BASF's construction chemistry division under the Master Builders Solutions brand offers advanced solutions for new construction, as well as for the maintenance, repair and reconstruction of buildings and structures.

A wide portfolio of developments covers: concrete and cement additives, chemical solutions for underground construction, waterproofing systems, sealants, repair and protective mixtures, high-quality mortars, grouting for equipment, floor coatings, tile glue, deformation seams, as well as solutions for the protection of wood, etc.

Production sites and sales centers of the construction chemistry division are located in more than 60 countries. The turnover at the end of 2016 amounted to about 2.3 billion euros. The number of personnel of the construction chemistry unit is about 6,000 people.

2017: Opening of an enterprise in St. Petersburg

BASF plant for the production of construction chemistry opened in St. Petersburg

October 5, 2017 in St. Petersburg the opening of the enterprise of the BASF concern, the world manufacturer of construction chemistry, took place. The volume of investments in the opening of production as of October 2017 amounted to about 5 million euros. The plant has its own quality laboratory to ensure the proper quality level that meets Russian and European standards. In addition, a development center has been opened here, where new products will be created, including the selection of compositions for the requirements of a particular region.

At the plant in St. Petersburg, there are three lines that produce concrete additives, alkaline-free concrete setting accelerators and materials for lubricating tunnel-penetrating shields, respectively. The nomenclature of the enterprise is a number of innovative solutions developed and put into production in 2016-2017. The plant produces the entire line of concrete additives, ranging from additives based on lignosulfonates, naphthalene sulfonates to additives based on polycarboxylates esters and the latest innovative developments of BASF - polyaryl esters that have no analogues in Russia. The production also allowed BASF to 100% localize the release of alkaline concrete setting accelerators and materials for lubrication of tunnel penetration panels.

The opening of production will fully satisfy the existing high demand for additives to concrete in the North-West region. Materials for underground construction are in demand at the largest mining enterprises in the North-West region, Siberian, Ural and Volga federal districts. Thanks to the optimization of supply chains, the cost of these solutions will become more attractive to the consumer, and the delivery time will significantly decrease, - said Sergey Vetlov, General Director of BASF Construction Systems.

According to him, the line for the production of materials for lubrication of tunnel penetration shields has a powerful export potential. After meeting the needs for these solutions of local companies, it is planned to establish the supply of products abroad. This also determines the choice of the region - St. Petersburg has wide logistics capabilities in terms of sea cargo transportation.

We aim to further expand our presence in Russia and focus our efforts on development in promising regions of the country. First of all, we will focus on those business segments where we need to be close to our local customers in order to more fully take into account their requirements. According to the plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the North-Western Federal District Nikolai Tsukanov, the opening of high-tech production by BASF should contribute to the high-quality development of the market for the production of building materials, and increase standards in the industry.
