2020: Attack of a virus racketeer
The Mattel company, producer of dolls "Barbie", stated on November 4, 2020 that it fell a victim of the attack of a virus racketeer, but it managed to reflect it and to avoid serious effects.
According to the application of the company directed to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the attack of the racketeer was detected on July 28, 2020. Without opening what type of the program racketeer was involved, Mattel stated that it led to data encryption in a number of systems.
Right after detection of the attack of Mattel began to enact the protocols of reaction and to take a number of measures to stop the attack and to recover the damaged systems, the statement says. - Mattel reflected the attack, and though some business functions were temporarily broken, the company recovered the work. |
Within investigation experts in cyber security did not detect proofs that any confidential business data or data of retail clients, suppliers, consumers or employees were stolen. Mattel also noted that the attack had no significant effect on its activity or financial performance.
It is pleasant to see how the organization is recovered after cyber attack without serious losses, - Boris Sipot, the senior engineer on sales to Synopsys company which is engaged in automation of electronic design noted. Reaction of Mattel to initially successful hacker attack allowed to constrain after all it and helped the company to recover control over the systems. |
According to him, such success story is not an everyday occurrence as usually there are considerable idle times of business and the expenses connected with it. Sipot hopes that Mattel will share how the command maintains stability of the systems, and in particular as this hacker attack was stopped specifically.[1]
