2022: Launch of bioresorbable implants for traumatology
On October 20, 2022, it became known that Togliatti was launching the production of bioresorbable implants for traumatology for 35 million rubles. We are talking about a joint project of the Medical Trading Company and Togliatti State University (TSU).
Before the imposition of sanctions, the Medical Trading Company supplied soluble magnesium implants to the Russian market from Germany, but after the imposition of sanctions, supplies stopped. The TSU has been developing promising magnesium alloys since 2010, they were supposed to be used as structural materials.
After negotiations, MTK and TSU signed an agreement on the creation of a site for the production of blanks for the manufacture of bioresorbable magnesium implants (BMI) on the university premises.
TSU will control the quality of products, since for this the university has all the necessary equipment and specialists. MTK will register the finished product as a medical device at Roszdravnadzor.
Testing of implants will be carried out by doctors of the Main Military Clinical Hospital (GVKG) named after Academician N. N. Burdenko under the guidance of Professor Leonid Brizhan. The new products will first be tested in laboratory animals, and then, after the results are approved, the new products will be used in clinical surgery.
The press service of TSU noted that bio-soluble materials from magnesium are more durable than their analogues, for example, glass fiber and polylactic acid. In the future, doctors will be able to use such implants to replace titanium products. Especially BMIs are necessary in pediatric traumatology, since the removal of implants after recovery not only leads to stress, but can also be dangerous for a certain category of small patients.[1]
