Assets

The head office of the company is in Amsterdam. For the end of 2014 the network totals about 1.5 thousand employees worldwide, about 500 of them – in the Netherlands.

Mexx brand stores work in 50 countries by means of franchizing worldwide. Over 300 shops are in Europe, more than 100 – in Russia. The first shop in Moscow was open in 1997 (see Mexx (Russia)

History

The company arose in 1980. Then the emigrant from India Chadkh's Rattan founded in the Netherlands the company which was engaged in import of clothes from Asia and sale under brands of Moustache (men's wear) and Emanuelle (women's clothing). Later two brands integrated. From merge of capital letters the brand also received the name: M-Moustache, E – Emanuelle, and XX – the English colloquial designation of a kiss.

2001: Transformation into subsidiary of Liz Claiborne

Since 2001 the company became affiliated enterprise of corporation Liz Claiborne, Inc.

2014: Bankruptcy of the company

In December, 2014 Mexx is declared bankrupt. The relevant decision was made by court in Amsterdam. The company management connects the current situation with decrease in consumer activity and hopes for restart of the company. By data the court made the NL Times edition, the decision on bankruptcy on December 4, 2014. The solution concerned three companies:

  • Mexx Holding Netherlands BV,
  • Mexx Europe Holding BV и
  • Mexx Europe Holding International BV.

Further the solution can mention and other enterprises entering into corporation are noted by the edition. Court's decision also appoints the interim manager who will study a question whether the company is capable to recover from crisis. This mission is assigned to Fritz Kemps.

Basic reason of bankruptcy of Kemps called falling of consumer activity owing to financial crisis. Besides, deterioration of the situation of affairs was influenced also that the company could not win young audience, and former clients grew up and today to them 45–55 years.

According to the managing director, it is not clear yet as bankruptcy will affect the fate of employees. He hopes that the company will manage to be restarted.
