The research division of Microsoft corporation - Microsoft Research was founded in 1991. The main field of activity of division are basic and application studies in the field of ADP equipment and software development in such directions as graphics, speech recognition, researches of the user interface, increase in personal performance, processing of natural languages, software tools and techniques, operating systems and network applications and also mathematical disciplines.

Content

In Microsoft Research more than 700 people in 5 laboratories which are in Redmond (Vshington) work; To Silicon Valley (California); Cambridge (Great Britain); Beijing (China) and Bangalore (India). Microsoft Research cooperates with the scientific and research centers and also colleges and the universities worldwide with the purpose to improve a technique of teaching and training, to inspire technology innovations and to widely extend researches in the field of ADP equipment.

Microsoft Research not only conducts own researches. This division will organize cooperation of corporation with the leading scientific and research centers around the world. Cooperation of scientists and researchers of many academies, universities, research groups helps to make new discoveries in health care and education, power and the environment.

2019: Rich persons will teach robots to move Microsoft and Sberbank

On October 15 Sberbank and Microsoft announced start of the program of joint surveys in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics. Microsoft says that the first in the history their research center in Redmond (USA) will open doors for the Russian company. Partners will work together on creation of algorithms of artificial intelligence for control of robots in banking sector. Read more here.

Researches in Russia

2011

As of September, 2011 within the External Research program the research center conducts work in Russia on interaction with a number of leaders of universities of the country. In particular, on the SDS project (Scientific Data Set) laboratory of calculus mathematics Microsoft Research in Cambridge (Great Britain) and laboratory of Work benches of mathematical modeling of faculty of Calculus mathematics and Cybernetics of Lomonosov Moscow State University create class library for work with the multidimensional arrays which are the main type of scientific data. The SDS library in the form of the source code is in open access.

Based on VMK Lomonosov Moscow State University work on the major project in the field of computer vision, by one of the trunk directions of researches in the field of IT is conducted.

2004

Since 2004 based on faculty VMK Lomonosov Moscow State University there is a Microsoft laboratory. Within activity of laboratory students can get acquainted in practice with the latest technologies and software products of Microsoft and learn about the perspective research Microsoft Research projects.

Cooperation with leading manufacturers program and the hardware is a necessary condition of training of specialists of modern level. Since 1991 in Russia the research division of Microsoft Research works. In Russia the Microsoft Research Connections direction within which joint research projects, summer schools for students and young specialists, a training at the best world universities, conferences and seminars with participation of the leading world scientists are carried out actively develops. Based on three Russian universities and research institutes work on joint projects with Microsoft Research is conducted.
