2023: Ethical Capital Partners Investment Fund buys MindGeek

On March 16, 2023, Ethical Capital Partners (ECP), an investment fund, announced an agreement to acquire MindGeek, which, among other things, owns the Pornhub platform, one of the world's most famous adult resources.

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The report says that with the support of ECP, MindGeek will continue to implement the latest and most effective security protocols to ensure that its platforms are "inclusive and sex-positive spaces for adults." In addition to Pornhub, MindGeek's assets include YouPorn, Redtube, Brazzers, Men.com, Sean Cody, Trans Angels and Nutaku.

ECP is looking for investment opportunities in industries that require ethical leadership with strong principles. We believe that the adult entertainment industry is being influenced by changing public views and regulatory approaches and it is the right time to grow this business, "said Rocco Meliambro, ECP Chairman.

The acquisition followed several difficult years for a major player in the pornographic Internet market. Earlier, MindGeek CEO Feras Antoon and COO David Tassillo decided to leave the company. In addition, MindGeek is in the midst of several lawsuits involving child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The platform has already removed all unverified content and introduced new requirements designed to protect against such claims in the future: anyone who is captured in a video uploaded by users must confirm their identity and age. Against this background, ECP in its statement calls MindGeek "a leader in the fight against illegal online content."^[1]
